What does Variable-Speed mean?

"Variable-Speed" means the change of the speed of a driven machine. The Voith variable-speed drive is therefore located between a constant speed motor and the driven machine.

Customer benefits through speed control

Energy and cost savings
Speed control offers higher efficiency compared to throttle control, especially during part-load operation. The driven machine and the motor take up less energy which results in lower operating costs. These energy savings, lower investment costs for components and reduced investment costs for the driven machine usually mean pay-back times of 6 - 20 months.
Reduced emissions
Energy savings as a result of speed control result in lower consumption of primary energy and hence protect the environment due to lower emissions.
Increased flexibility
The application of variable-speed drives allows considerably higher flexibility in the operation of a plant, since the driving machine can be adjusted precisely to the actual conditions - with highest efficiencies.
Increased service life of motor and driven machine
The load requirements on motor and the driving machine are continuously lower as a result of speed adaptation and power take-up adjustments.
Reduced maintenance requirements
Simple and robust mechanical designs reduce maintenance requirements to a minimum. Maintenance intervals of up to 8 years.
